CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF Ferula tadshikorum PIMENOV
Abstract
The genus Ferula (Apiaceae) comprises around 180–185 species that occur from Central Asia to Northern Africa. The chemical components of essential oils derived from various Ferula species have been shown to exhibit a wide range of biological activities. Ferula tadshikorum Pimenov is a medicinal plant that is endemic to Uzbekistan. Today, it is mainly cultivated there for export to the rest of the world [2]. In our ongoing study, five compounds were isolated from F. tadshikorum by using silica column (CC) and Flash chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 chromatography, along with preparative-HPLC. Their structures were comprehensively elucidated by HRESI-MS, UV, IR, NMR experiments as umbelliferone (1), 4,7-dimethoxy-5-(propanoyl)benzo[d][1,3]dioxole (2), 3-methoxy-4,5-methylenedioxypropiophenone (3), dibutyl phthalate (4), grilactone (5), respectively. All compounds were isolated from this species for the first time.
