Abstract

Plant metabolites serve as a vital resource for the development of new therapeutic agents and drugs. Their ready availability, inherent biological activity, susceptibility to chemical modification, and low toxicity make these compounds highly attractive starting molecules in medicinal chemistry. At the Department of Medicinal Chemistry of the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry, monoterpenoids are widely used in the synthesis of antiviral agents and promising analgesics, while sesquiterpenoids have been employed to synthesize bioactive compounds resembling those found in ginseng.
